Michael Keillor grew up in the Scottish Countryside where his imagination was encouraged to run wild. Truck building was the Family business and Michael spent his formative years adventuring in the workshops, creating elaborate inventions from discarded metal and wood.
Writing was always a passion and after Law School Michael set about teaching himself how to film the stories he wrote. Digital Cinematography gave Michael the tools to start shooting and cutting short films, comedy sketches, commercials and corporates, anything that allowed him to tell a story with an image.
Michael’s first screenplay was shortlisted by Scottish Screen for BBC Fast Forward Features and his second secured a commission for Channel 4’s Coming Up strand, opening up a world of TV Drama where Michael continued to develop his craft. Commissioned by both the BBC and the UK Film Council to make a pair of shorts, Michael was reminded of the pull of the Cinema and his passion for telling original stories in an original way.
Michael brought those cinematic ambitions to the small screen this Christmas, giving the original three-part drama ‘Young James Herriot’ a distinctly cinematic look and feel, while announcing a darker more complex side to the famous Vet. ‘Herriot’ was a success and Michael is currently looking for a project with ambition and intelligence, to engage an audience that includes himself.
Michael Keillor is based in London and represented for writing and directing by Michelle Archer at United Agents.
